I can give you a rough estimate. I would recommend aiming for getting material from 8 pairs of jeans for a small to medium project.

How Do You Wash A Denim Quilt? 

You can throw your quilt into the washing machine with cold water on the gentle cycle. If your quilt is quite large, you may need to take your quilt to the laundromat.
