Make a Jar Craft Wall Hanging For Your Blank Wall
I know you love a good upcycling project just as much as I love making them! This one uses the ever-versatile jar to make a jar craft that you can hang on your wall.
There are so many different crafts you can make with jars.
It’s on my never-ending to-do list to put a roundup of quick and simple mason jar crafts together in the next little while, so keep an eye out for that!
For now, though, I will tell you how I made this really sweet and modern-looking wall hanging. I love how easy this was to make, and it transformed a little corner of my dining room so quickly.
Because of the neutral colors, I can move it around, and it suits almost every room in my home. I’m sure it’ll suit your home just as well. You could even add faux flowers to match the color scheme in your room.

How to Make an Easy Jar Craft – Wall Hanging Style
As always, I like to make my DIY tutorials simple and easy to follow, so as well as the supply list, I’ve also written step-by-step instructions that include photos of the various stages. If you’re anything like me, having the visual step right there in front of you helps!
Step 1: Prepare the Cardboard
The first thing I did was to cut and measure four pieces of cardboard, all to the same size. I didn’t have an exact size in mind when I started, so I just eyed the first rectangle that I made and used it as a template to make the rest the same size.
It turned out to be roughly 30cm high by 15cm across, but you can make the background any size you like. If you have a large jar, you’ll probably want a large backing piece.
If you plan on using tall, stemmed flowers or branches, you could make the background a bit taller to allow space for the plants.
When you’ve cut out four pieces of cardboard that are all the same size, use your glue stick to attach all the pieces together as shown in the photo above.
You’ll have a neater overall finish if you make sure they are well glued, including all the edges and corners.

Step 2: Wrap The Cardboard
Next up, it’s time to wrap the cardboard using craft paper.
I chose a neutral-colored paper, but you can choose any color, pattern, or texture like I did when I made my DIY journal. You could even get a free sample of wallpaper to use.
If the paper is thin, use a couple of layers to wrap the cardboard.
This is just as simple as wrapping up a present (depending on how simple you find that task!)
If you’re not a great wrapper, here are a few things I’ve learned over the years!
- Fold the sides in, and before taping or gluing them down, crease the edges of the paper to get a really crisp and sharp finish.
- When it comes to folding the paper over the top and bottom of the cardboard, fold the sides in first, which will create two triangular shapes in the paper. Then, fold the triangles over and tape them down.
If you’re not a very neat wrapper, don’t worry too much because the back of this project will be against a wall, so you won’t see it!
When you’ve finished wrapping it, it should look like the photo below:
Step 3: Prep The Jar
This was my favorite part!
Now, you need to arrange your stems or flowers in the jar. Have a play around at this stage, and make sure you’re happy with the composition before you glue each of the stems to the bottom of the jar.
You might want to keep some stems higher at the back of the jar and cut others down that are closer to the front.
Depending on whether you want this wall hanging to match the decor in one of your rooms, you could choose different colored flowers or stems.
Step 4: Wrap Twice Around the Neck of the Jar
At this point, it’s almost time to start putting the whole wall hanging together, but first, I decided to wrap a bit of twine around the neck of the jar.
Glue the twine in place before you start winding it around, and then tuck the end in at the back of the jar and add a blob of glue to make sure it doesn’t come unwound.
You could use another color or even add a scrap fabric heart, bow, or button to the front of your jar.
Step 5: Add a Loop
Next up, I needed to figure out a way to make a loop so it would hang on the wall, so I used twine and glued it to the back of the cardboard.
You could put the loop lower (like you’d see on a photo frame) so that it’s not visible when you hang it up. I think if I were to do this again, that’s what I’d do!
Step 6: Attach the Jar
The last step is to attach the jar to the background. I put a vertical line of glue down the back of the jar and pressed it firmly onto the paper.
And there it is! Finished!

I just love how quick and simple this was to make, yet it looks so great on my wall! It’s so simple and understated, but it immediately adds such an inviting atmosphere to the room!

Top Tips for Making a Jar Craft
- If you want to make this jar wall hanging last a long time, you could use a solid piece of scrap wood as the backing rather than cardboard. I think this would look great, especially if you choose a piece that has a beautiful grain in it.
- Add stones or fairy lights to the bottom of the jar after you’ve added the stems. If I make this again, I think I’ll add both next time!

Make a simple and understated yet elegant wall hanging to freshen up an empty space on your wall.

- Cardboard
- Craft paper
- Artificial stems/leaves
- Jar

Instructions
- Cut out four pieces of cardboard, roughly 15 x 20 cm, and glue them together back to back to create a thick cardboard stack.
- Wrap the thick cardboard stack in craft paper.
- Arrange artificial stems or flowers in a jar and glue them to the bottom of the jar.
- Wrap twine around the neck of the jar and secure it with glue.
- Add a loop to the back of the cardboard using twine. This will allow you to hang the decoration on the wall.
- Glue the jar to the front of the paper-wrapped cardboard.
